CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Belinda Engler, director, has been a Special Education teacher for 19 years. She believes that teaching youth to work around a horse safely is always the first step in a successful learning experience. Keeping lessons fun by teaching a skill and then playing games that use that skill has been a rewarding format.
A high rider/wrangler ratio (2/1) and limited number of campers ( just 6 per camp) keeps accidents to a minimum.
Grooming and groundwork(leading, training) are essential. If the horse obeys the camper when he/she is on the ground, then there is a good chance that the horse will obey him/her when he/she is on their back.
Riders begin to ride bareback to develop their balance and progress to a saddle as they show ability to control the horse in the arena at a walk and trot.
Both English and Western saddle/styles are offered.
Campers learn to saddle and bridle their own horse.
Riders may begin cross country riding after progressing to a saddle. Trail rides are offered for the more advanced riders.
A Show n Ride Party will be held in the evening ,the last day of camp. This is a time when parents and friends can come see what the campers have learned.
Fun show opportunities on dates TBA throughout the summer are offered to all levels of riders.
